The graphics are sharp enough and the screen responsive, but the set-up is not as intuitive as systems in VW Group rivals.Į-Tech hybrid launch editions get a 10-inch driver information panel, a different console with e-shifter and exclusive grey interior with blue stitching. Line models have the best infotainment set-up available in the Captur, adding a larger 9.3-inch portrait-style touchscreen with big tiles for main functions like mapping and media, and small shortcut icons along the lower edge. Line includes 18-inch alloy wheels, sportier exterior styling, and red interior accents and stitching. All get that portrait infotainment screen, a reversing camera and 17-inch alloys, as well as cables for home and public charging. There’s also a 4.2-inch TFT driver information display and the usual USB ports. The Captur E-TECH plug-in is available in Evolution, Techno and R.S.

Standard on-board tech in the Captur includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth, a DAB radio and a wireless smartphone charging function. All cars come with alloy wheels, LED headlights, auto folding electrically adjustable mirrors, rear privacy glass, automatic air conditioning and a host of active safety systems such as Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. It’s not alone in being noisy – plenty of small SUVs get a bit uncouth on coarse-chip roads – but it’s decidedly out of keeping with the polished way the car otherwise drives.The new Captur is available with four equipment levels and there’s generous levels of standard kit throughout the range. The only real knock on refinement is the amount of noise generated by the tyres on anything other than perfect tarmac. There’s the occasional thud from the 18-inch alloy wheels over really sharp bumps, but otherwise the Captur floats along better than a small SUV on big alloys really should. The steering is light and quick, and there’s plenty of grip from the Continental tyres if you get enthusiastic. Like the related Nissan Juke, the Captur feels surprisingly lively. Three-point turns require a second glance at the screen just to be sure you’re actually in the gear you thought. It can be a bit hesitant off the mark, but once you’re up and rolling it shifts quickly and has a good idea of which gear you’ll need, and when you’ll need it.īeware though, it’s slow to jump from drive to reverse, and is combined with a slightly vague little gear selector that doesn’t clunk from drive, through neutral, and into reverse. It’s hooked up to a dual-clutch transmission that, although not quite as smooth as an old-fashioned torque converter, is relatively smooth around town. Sure, 113kW and 270Nm aren’t quite hot hatch numbers, but they’re more than enough to make this little Captur feel sprightlier than the average SUV.
